Highschool of the Dead is set in the present day, beginning as the world is struck by a deadly pandemic that turns humans into zombies, euphemistically referred to by the main characters as "them" since they are no longer considered human. The story follows a group of high school students, the high school's nurse, and a young girl as they fight their way to safety through the deadly streets of Japan during a worldwide catastrophic event known as the "Outbreak".
The first anime adaptation of this manga was taken in , and fans widely loved it. In fact, the series was so popular that it is regarded as one of the most popular Television Anime series even to this day.
But sadly, like many brilliant anime series out there, 'High School of the Dead' did not yet get renewed for a second season. The first season premiered on July 5, , and the finale aired on September 20, In the same year, an original video animation special episode for 'High School of the Dead' was released for the fans. But since then, there have been no new developments, and fans have been waiting eagerly for almost a decade to know anything about the second season.

But, going by the looks of it, it seems unlikely that the show will get a second season. The manga creator passed away in , and, as a result, the manga was left unfinished.
