In addition to going through the main story, there are also loads of side quests and endgame content to consider. The last factor is the ability to speed up gameplay and recover health instantly in re-released for modern consoles. If you are doing a traditional playthrough of the original Final Fantasy 7 as if you are playing it on the PS1, it should take about 37 hours.
It is set across three discs. The first two have enough content for entire games, while the third disc has the final dungeon and a bunch of endgame quests. When doing some or all the side quests your time with the game will vary greatly.

I have yet to finish a playthrough of the PC version, but as far as the PS One version goes, I usually spend about hours at least on a playthrough. I like to take my time and try to unlock everything when I play a game. My first playthrough was Last edited by The Brown Hornet ; 23 May, pm.
I've recently been watching CalebHart42 on Twitch who speed runs this game, and the World Record not his is On the PS1 version I would max the timer out at I would never complete this game until I had Cloud hitting for on every hit with his Omnislash. Knights of the Round Table would be hitting for every hit.
Would max out all characters stats by converting enimies into sources. Materia would be maxed to get doubles and triples of summons. End game difficulty means nothing. Its all about getting the respect of taking down Ruby and Emerald Weapons.
Not sure if anything has been changed with the port to steam. But in the PS1 version those two kept you on your toes even when your characters were maxed.
