How do you become a professional gamer? How much practice do you have to put in to become a big name on the eSports scene? In this new series, some of the biggest names in eSports tell us what it takes to do something that many gamers aspire to: get paid to play games. First up is Mike Craddock. AKA Fearcrads. Here, he explains how a combination of his CoD skills and his YouTube channel helped him become well known on the eSports scene.

Being a professional gamer takes a lot of effort and dedication. It's not something that's going to happen overnight and you've got to be committed. Starting from the bottom, a lot of people start simply on gamebattles and jump from team to team as they improve as a player until eventually they reach that top level - it takes some people weeks, or even years, but eventually their hard work will pay off.

As for me, I've been an avid CoD player since - I never played competitively at all until Modern Warfare 2 , however, when I teamed with random people online and actually came second in one of the seasons in gamebattles. With the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts I gathered friends who are also fellow YouTubers who I knew were strong players and decided to give it a go again and we've done surprisingly well in the past few months, shocking a lot of people - including ourselves.

What was the first game that you remember being really good at? I was an avid racing game player back when I was younger but on the Call of Duty scene, it was the first Black Ops game. A lot of people considered me to be one of the best players on YouTube and I took pride in uploading some of the best gameplay videos and just strived to be one of the best.

What do your friends and family think of your profession? At first they were judgemental, but over time they've seen me go on multiple trips around the world and make some decent money so they've kind of let me do whatever I feel is best now. Cancel X. Topic Archived Page 1 2 3 4 of 4 Next Last.
